SIM related vocabulary

eID

The eID, or eUICC Identifier, is a unique identifier associated with an embedded Universal Integrated Circuit Card (eUICC). It plays a crucial role in enabling the eUICC to switch between different mobile network operator profiles over-the-air, providing flexibility and adaptability to IoT deployments. Contrary to the ICCID and the MSISDN, the eID does not change when a eUICC is updated over the air. This unique identifier stays.

APN

Access Point Name: an APN determines how mobile devices connect to the internet and other services using a cellular network. This name is important because it sets up the necessary communication and routing settings for data, including the authentication method, IP address, and gateway. Each mobile network operator has its own unique APN, and users or devices must set the correct APN to access data services on the network.

MCC

Mobile Country Code: is a unique three-digit code used to identify a specific country or geographical area in the context of mobile telecommunications. It's part of the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) and is essential for routing calls and data to the correct mobile network within a particular region. MCCs are allocated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and help mobile devices determine which country's network to connect to when roaming or making international calls. The list of MCC can be found here.

3GPP

The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) is a group of telecommunications organizations that work together to develop standards for mobile communication systems, like 3G, 4G, and 5G. They bring experts from around the world to make rules that help different technologies work together. The 3GPP rules make sure various network operators and devices work together without trouble. This leads to the extensive use of mobile technology and services.
